On September 9, 2014, AFAR, in coordination with long-time program partner, The John A. Hartford Foundation, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Medical Students Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) program. This intimate cocktail reception paid special tribute to key MSTAR program supporter and retiring President of the John A. Hartford Foundation, Kathryn D. Wriston and was hosted by Norman Volk, Chairman of The John A. Hartford Foundation, and his wife Alicia Volk.
The reception uniquely gathered MSTAR participates in all roles: mentor, student, and funder. Program mentors, Dr. Marc Lachs and Dr. Rainer Soriano, along with program alumni, Matthew W. Schelke and Matthew Seigerman, from Weill Cornell Medical College and Mount Saini Medical School, spoke on the impact the MSTAR program has had on the field of geriatrics, on their institutions, and on their personal careers.
