Muscle Physiology and Healthy Aging

Wednesday, November 8, 2023

3-4pm ET (12-1pm PT)

Dumbell

Muscles: They’re crucial for counteracting age-related decline. But since they naturally become smaller and weaker as we grow older, exercise is key. But what’s most effective—and what’s actually happening in the body as we move, lift weights, and more?

Scientists are actively working to understand how exercise can improve muscle health and reduce skeletal muscle decline as we age. In a conversation-style webinar, leading muscle physiology expert Kevin Murach, PhD, will join Prevention Editor-in-Chief Sarah Smith to discuss the science behind exercise, muscles, and healthy aging.

Dr. Murach is an Assistant professor in the College of Education and Health Professions Exercise Science Resource Center at the University of Arkansas. He is the recipient of a 2022 Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty. He recently received a $2.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study how exercise can mitigate the decline of tissue function with aging.
