Program
As we age, exercise does more than help us look and feel better—it’s also proven to significantly reduce the onset of chronic conditions and diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. But why and how?

In our one-hour, interactive webinar, expert doctors and scientists lent insights into the latest biomedical research on exercise in older adults, exploring:

• How does cardiovascular exercise reduce the symptoms and onset of chronic conditions as we age?

• What is the relationship between muscle strength and overall health for the maturing body?

• What are the psychosocial benefits—and barriers—behind exercise for older individuals and communities?

Facilitated by:

Caroline Blaum, MD, MS
AFAR Deputy Medical Officer and The Diane and Arthur Belfer Professor of Geriatrics and the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care at the New York University Langone Medical Center, whose research concerns models of care, disability, complex patients, frailty, and diabetes in older adults.

Featuring:

Janey Peterson, EdD, MS, RN,
Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and 2013 AFAR Beeson Career Development in Aging Research scholar whose work focuses on establishing recommendations for high risk older adults with multiple chronic illnesses, refining an existing intervention to motivate physical activity for this particular group, as well as looking at kilocalorie thresholds.

Jonah Lee, PhD,
Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Michigan and a 2012 Ellison Foundation / AFAR Postdoctoral Fellow, who has studied the role of muscle stem cells in aged-muscle maintenance and hypertrophy.
