The Science Behind COVID-19 Vaccines:
Establishing Clinical Foundations & Addressing Common Misconceptions

Thursday, April 8, 2021, 12:30 pm ET

With the approval and rollout of COVID-19 vaccines across the United States, hope is on the horizon for protecting millions of older people from the coronavirus. Older adults were carefully included in the clinical trials to develop the vaccines in order to consider the range of health concerns that impact older immune systems. Still, older bodies accept vaccines in unique ways that require special attention. Understanding the science behind COVID-19 vaccines can be a useful tool to educate older adults and those who serve them to separate fact from fiction and, ultimately, to improve vaccine uptake.

This free, one-hour webinar will explore:

  • The aging immune systems response to vaccinations
  • What coronavirus mutations mean for vaccines' effectiveness
  • The science behind booster shots and coronavirus mutations
  • Phases of vaccine clinical development through human challenge studies
  • How the different US-approved COVID-19 vaccines work
  • Common myths about the vaccine development and effectiveness
  • How Geroscience can pave the way for improving vaccine efficacy in older adults
