Grantee in the News: Sofiya Milman Discusses Healthspan in US News and World Reports
On July 21st, US News and World Reports features 2012 Post-Doctoral Fellow and 2015 Beeson Scholar, Sofiya Milman, MD’s research dispelling the comment misconception about the relationship between very old age and disease, and draws on a research article that she co-authored in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
By looking at data from the Longevity Genes Project (spearheaded by AFAR’s Deputy Scientific Director, Dr. Nir Barzilai) and the New England Centenarian Study, Dr. Milman found that some individuals who are living long do experience lower rates of disease and disability. She states, “Chronic disease is not an inevitable part of aging, an extended period of good health can accompany a long life span and is an achievable goal.”
Dr. Sofiya Milman is an Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University.
