Grantee in the News: Malaz Boustani spearheads in $46 Million Program to Improve Healthcare

On October 1st, Inside Business Indiana reported on a $46 million initiative to improve healthcare quality while lowing costs spearheaded by 2005 Paul Beeson Career Development Awards in Aging Research participant and 2000 Center of Excellence Fellow Malaz Boustani, MD, MPH and his team at Indiana University.

The initiative, which includes collaboration among nearly three dozen university and state-connected partners, is designed to reduce unnecessary visits and testing, while potentially saving $1 billion. Dr. Boustani’s team in particular is focused on the implementation science in the development of healthcare tools.
Malaz Boustain, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine and Center Scientist at the Indiana University Center for Aging Research, an Investigator at Regenstrief Institute, Inc., Chief Research Officer at Indianapolis Discovery Network for Dementia, and the Research Director for the Healthy Aging Brain Center.

By delaying the onset of disease, investment into the science of aging can reduce healthcare costs, as explained in our 4 minute video, Live Longer, Live Well.

Learn more about why age-related research is more cost effective that single-disease models in AFAR’s 2013 publication “The Longevity Dividend: Geroscience Meets Geropolitics.”
