Awardee in the News: Andrew Dillin’s research on Genetic switch and Healthspan in Cell journal.
In the May 19, 2016 issue of Cell journal, 2010 Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award recipient Andrew Dillin, PhD, published promising research on a genetic switch could be linked to increased health and lifespan.
Through research conducted with animal models, Dr. Dillin’s lab found two epigenetic switches-- enzymes that effect gene expression--to be highly correlated with increased lifespan. This finding represents the greatest correlation in regards to increased lifespan of mice ever uncovered.
A summary of Dr. Dillin’s finding can be viewed in the press release here. To date, this release was also picked up by GEN News Highlights and ScienceDaily.
Andrew Dillin, PhD, is the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Distinguished Chair in Stem Cell Research at the University of California, Berkeley.
The Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award honors early career scientists who have already made major discoveries in the fundamental biology of aging and whose work is deemed likely to be highly influential for decades to come. View the complete list of award winners here.
