The Beeson Annual Meeting is held for Beeson Scholars, mentors and other leaders in academic medicine and aging research to review research progress of Scholars, encourage dissemination of their findings, and enhance development of scholarship and leadership. The 2012 Beeson Annual Meeting will be held September 19-22 in the Washington DC metropolitan area at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. The purpose of the annual AFAR Grantee Conference is to promote scientific and personal exchanges among recent AFAR grantees and experts in the fields of geriatrics and gerontology. From 8:30 to 10:00 am, AFAR will be hosting a media briefing on the latest in pain management for older adults. The briefing is sponsored by the Mayday Fund, a private foundation that supports research on pain. The event will showcase a stellar line-up of speakers: Kathleen M. Foley of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Anne Louise Oaklander of Harvard Medical School, and Cary Reid of Weill Medical College at Cornell University. The second annual joint symposium between the American Federation for Aging Research, the Gerontological Society of America, and the American Aging Association will be held November 18. The GSA will be hosting the symposium as a pre-conference event prior to their 2011 annual meeting. The symposium, “The Biology of Aging: Interventions to Enhance Healthy Human Aging,” will include presentations on topics including caloric restriction, hormone interventions, and drug development.
